coconut

Incase you missed it, our Langey store in Willowbrook has gone “coco-nuts”! We are now carrying a wide variety of coconut-based products such as organic coconut oil, coconut flour, coconut water and more. In light of our new grocery category we’ve been getting up to speed on best uses and health benefits of cooking with coconut based products. In the past, coconut oil has gotten a bad rap for being high in saturated fat however recent research suggests there are healthy pros when used in moderation. Here are 5 fun facts about cooking with coconut.

  1. Coconut is rich in lauric acid. Lauric acid is a fatty acid that kills microbes like bacteria, fungi & viruses, helping you fight off infection and pathogens.
  2. Coconut oil is the best for frying. Coconut oil is extremely resistant to high-heat making it the perfect oil for frying.
  3. Coconut can help you lose weight. The fatty acids in coconuts can increase energy expenditure and make you feel fuller, longer.
  4. Coconut-based products are good for your hair and skin. Coconut oil applied externally can moisturize skin and protect against hair damage.
  5. Coconut oil is rich in medium chain triglycerides. They go imediately to the liver where they are turned to ketones for quick energy.
